The Elephant in the Sky (2019)
A pocket-sized ode designed to encourage empathetic travelling; to embrace the latter as a philosophy to travel as we know now. The Elephant in the Sky is an antithesis against conventionally damaging touristic escapades, and is an object that exists somewhere between a coffee table book and guide book. Filled with a range of stories and anecdotes from people whose experiences might offer some lasting insight, the reader may ultimately be encouraged to gather an understanding and awareness of the people and places in which we are a visitor.
This project placed me in both the editorial and designer’s seat, and is composed of interviews led by myself, photography and introductions. The majority of written content and additional imagery was then sourced from a variety of artists and writers in New Zealand.
